Magic for Maddie was founded just 3 years ago to honor the life and legacy of forever 8-year-old Maddie Schmidt from Southampton, MA. In this short time, the community has rallied around a powerful mission to fuel research, help families in their fight and make a local impact. The organization has begun to see the first glimmers of progress for patients like Maddie battling DIPG pediatric brain cancer, helped hundreds of families battling all types of childhood cancer and supported many local non-profits in Western MA.

The 4th annual Magic for Maddie 5K & Carnival is set for Saturday, October 18, 2025 at the Ashley Reservoir in Holyoke and will include a dunk tank, inflatable games, kids’ fun run, sparkle station, petting zoo, knockerball and food trucks. This year will also welcome to the stage two Western MA faves—Southern Rain and Ed Popielarczyk’s Comedy Magic.

Each year, the event attracts more than 2,000 participants and volunteers.
