Hard Times Fall on American Families
Sunday evenings are a time for eating delicious food, socializing with friends and watching football. Nothing more American than that.
This past Sunday after the night’s games 60 Minutes did it again with an extremely impactive spotlight on struggling families in America. These are people who have really been hit hard by the economic decline. You were brought into the lives of two young children living in a box truck after their family was foreclosed on and sent out to the streets. Another family spent weeks living in their car, driving shelter to shelter until they found a place that would accommodate them. Today, Florida’s homeless shelters are packed and usually unable to serve the needs of struggling families across the state.
These were not drug addicts, runaways, illegal immigrants or people who would rather not work. These were hard working Americans who once had a wonderful life and a home, now they have nothing and they were all shell shocked from losing it all so fast.
Unfortunately, there is little light at the end of the tunnell. There is little job growth in the private sector and the public sector is having problems all the way from small municipalities all the way on up to the Federal Governement. Most likely there is much more suffering in the future for American families.
Each day this week I have come to work thinking about last Sunday’s episode of 60 Minutes. It truly had an impact on me and would likely do the same to anyone else who saw this. I’ve shared the clip with all my associates so that we can be constantly reminded of why we come to work. After all our work here keep families in their homes and businesses in operation. I know we have had a positive impact and have kept many families from ending up like those on 60 Minutes. Please click the link and share your thoughts, I’d be surprised if you were not effected as well.
