The Second Best Thing You Can Do For Your Business

It’s simple. Stop doing the things that are not working. Small business owners spend way too much time and waste far too much of their precious resources on programs and strategies that simply do not work. They keep trying to fix them or make them work, just ignoring the brutal truth. Instead, they should use this as a guideline: If it doesn’t work, stop doing it.

This can apply to so many aspects of your business. For example, if a product or service is not performing, cut it instead of reinvesting in it. Don’t fix it, dump it. If an employee is not working out, let them go. Stop ignoring the issue or hoping for better performance. If a form of advertising is not bringing you a return, stop it now. This may include any form of promotion or advertising.

Take a hard look at what works in your business and what does not work. The obvious (but seldom made) decision is to stop doing what does not work and start doing more of what does work. Focus on higher profit, greater sell-through goods and services, support of higher productivity and eliminate the waste.

It’s as simple as it sounds – take a look at your business and see how many ways you can stop doing what does not work and do more of what does. You may be surprised.

By the way, the first and best thing you can do for your business is to pay attention to it daily. If you are doing this, the above process should be happening automatically.
