Victory Has A Price
Our services aren’t free. As amazing as what we do is, this is the one thing that isn’t so appealing. Think about it- we help people and their businesses crawl out from underneath their debt. We put an end to sleepless nights, to the thought of a dismal future, to those pesky collection calls. Wait. That’s not true. There is still ONE call they’ll be getting every month, and it’s from the one company that promises to end their suffering.
I am just as thrilled as the workout men each time one of our clients triumphs. I love to see our hard work pay off, and another client free of financial burdens. But in the case of a client who has not yet fully paid for our services, my communication with them does not end simply with a congratulations, but a “your total outstanding bill is…” No one likes to hear from me. Not during the workout. Not after it. I accept this, and remind myself of the importance of what it is that we do to help me march on.
Yes, at the end of the day we are practically giving away our services. And yes, you could argue that the results are often priceless, forever changing the lives of the people we help for the better. You could even say that of all the bills our clients need to pay, this should be the one they have no remorse about. But these arguments don’t always hold up so well when you’re dealing with the cash flow issues of failing businesses and owners who are barely able to survive. Add to this all the waiting involved in most workouts and the stress and anxiety our clients start to feel when “nothing is happening”, and you’ve got yourself a pretty bleak situation in the world of Accounts Receivable.
I know that what I do is necessary. And as business owners, I know our clients understand our position. Our men will go to war for them. They will be armed and ready to fight. Ultimately, we will win our battles. But victory has a price.
I must comment on Erin’s post simply because she demonstrates so clearly what everyone has in common in this company….we care. We care deeply about our clients and their success. We take this vision to every aspect of our company including accounts receivable collection.
We will always work with any situation our clients have as long as they communicate and are respectful and reasonable, we will be also. Erin exemplifies what we stand for and is a terrific spokesperson for our company. I am proud to have her handle this most difficult post as she too cares deeply about the well being of our clients, as much as all of us do….
