Book Review by Joseph Conforto, A Second Wind All-Star
I am an ex-jock and I will attempt to convey my thoughts on Don Todrin’s newly released book, Successfully Navigating The Downturn, using that context as the backdrop of this blog post.
Anyone who has ever played a sport in which strategy is essential will understand the gist of this script. In football, my major indulgence, we have what is called the “play book.” The play book, to put it in blunt terms, is “how are we going to beat our opponent!” It’s not only about running faster or hitting harder, there must be a game plan involved. What strengths does our team have and how can we take advantage of the opponent’s obvious weaknesses? In order to beat our foe we MUST be on the same page! We MUST be studying the same play book! Every team member must be applying a coordinated effort to reach that same goal of WINNING. Successfully Navigating The Downturn is the play book that contains the strategies needed to win.
Now, let’s take this home! The name of our team is Second Wind Consultants. Our colors are red, white, and blue. Our complex is located in Northampton, MA. We travel all over the country and visit various opponent’s stadiums as it were, and we WIN! By the way, you, the small business owner, are our “franchise player”. You are the star of this team. Our strategy to win is based on you! You create the highlight reel. With that in mind, the importance of you studying the play book as well and understanding how the winner’s trophy can be attained is critical to the team’s success. It’s critical to your success.
Anyone who has ever competed, whether it be on the playing field or in the business world, knows the thrill of taking home the championship. It’s a feeling I personally cannot put down on paper. If you have been there then you know what I mean. If you haven’t, I guarantee this team–that you are the star of–will get you there.
Read the book, do the work! You, the small business owner, must know the game plan. When you miss a block who’s there to make it for you? When you throw an interception who’s going to prevent the opposition from scoring off of the pick? And, who’s going to celebrate when YOUR TEAM scores the ultimate winning touchdown, making it possible for your family to embrace the “Super Bowl” trophy of debt relief?
