Quit The Juggling Act – Business Is Not A Circus

I believe small business owners are the best jugglers in the world. If only they got paid for it! However, it is definitely not entertaining. The juggling act is all about payables and receivables. Playing the float and finessing your creditors.

“It’s in the mail.”

“I will pay you at the end of the week.”

“I am waiting for a check to come in.”

On it goes.

Holding your own paycheck, using your own credit cards, paying everyone late, collecting hard, discounting to get paid, paying one creditor this week another next week, changing suppliers, leaving a wake of destruction behind, knowing that it will take a year for them to ever catch up if they actually bother to sue… Collection agencies? Lawyers? Who cares. It takes forever and what is a judgement worth? No more than the underlying debt already defaulted. Juggle, juggle juggle, that’s the life of an underwater business driven by a small business owner who will never give up and will hang on forever, skimming, scamming and getting nowhere.

What is the point? Is there no strategy, no plan to get ahead and out of the downward spiral? Usually not, as it always requires capital to expand or grow and there is none. Rather than give up, admit defeat and close the doors to move on to a better plan, you juggle, juggle, juggle your life away.

Stop juggling. This is not a circus and it is not entertaining. Ending a losing plan is not dishonorable, in fact, it is the more honorable thing to do. Admit when it is not working and stop the losses as everyone involved is losing more every day.
