Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag – Satchel, Man Bag or Manpurse

I wrote previously about my personal organizational system that works great for me and has been my personal system for over forty years! It has been a frequently hit post and thus I write again about new developments in this area – see first satchel post here.
My system is very basic and works very well. It starts with a leather bag which I designed, and had made, with one separator creating two compartments, an internal pocket and two outside pockets, one in the front for my wallet and one in the back with a zipper for keys and other stuff. The second aspect of my system is a blank book without lines. I live by this system.
In the bag I have a place for my wallet, calculator, business cards, cell phone and whatever ‘stuff” I need for the day. I carry chargers, chords, books, pens, etc. and whatever other items I may need.
This works for a few reasons. I have a place for all my stuff, and this is critical….everything I need is always available. I don’t ever forget something I need and everything I need has a place to be returned too so I do not lose important items. It has a shoulder strap which is also critical as it leaves both hands available.
The second important item in my system is my blank book…addresses, appointments, cash flows, to do lists, phone numbers, whatever I need I write in my book and have it forever. I go through a book in 3-6 months and occasionally refer back to them as most valuable resources.
My life is organized around these two items, my book and my bag. Of course my book has a special location in the bag.
I have carried this bag for over twenty years but have had bags for over 40 years, since I was in college. Yes I get many comments and raised eyebrows, the best when my daughter turned 16 and was beginning to date, and a young man came to the door and snickered asking me what I had in my ‘purse’…when I said ‘my glock’, you should have seen his mouth open and his demeanor change to great respect. But I do receive many comments, but pay no heed, it works for me.
Then something earthshaking happened….the IPad. For me one of the greatest inventions ever….now I have my computer with me wherever I go. I became a very happy man with this device especially with the 3 G aspect, allowing me Internet access anyplace, anytime.
One problem, it did not fit into my bag.
Of course I returned to my leather craftsman who made the first one for me, and engaged hm to make a new one, large enough to fit my IPAD, otherwise identical, as why change something that works so well.
Now I am even happier as now I have all my ‘stuff ‘ with me, plus my IPAD….it doesn’t get much better then this!!!!! Plus I still have my original bag for brief excursions when I know I will not want or need my Ipad, so I am now a two bag man, both matching and both critical to my organizational success. I might add I had them made out of Ostrich hide which is not only very beautiful but the toughest leather imaginable. My twenty year old bag barely shows any signs of wear or tear and has been used hard for many many years.
One addition to my new bag. I am a student of shamanic studies and indigenous societies. I have collected a number of spiritual items, shamanic tools and other incidental items that have interested me, one being a Naga bead from Naga land (Northeast India) featuring the mystical giant who protects the bearer. It is an oval shell built into the over-flap of the bag, and I like it very much.
That’s it, and I have had so many inquiries and comments on my bag and book system, I have decided to make it available to the public. Write me if interested, I will arrange one to be made for you especially as an Ipad bag, what a winner. It is pricey so be prepared for a shock, but it is custom made and Ostrich is a very expensive leather. It is so good I would pay more for it. You could have it in a less expensive leather and it would be just as functional. I will attach pictures shortly. Now when I go shopping with my wife, and wait in the car as she goes into various stores, I have my toys with me to keep me busy and occupied….Lucky me, smart me. Thanks to my bag.
Yes friends, Pappa’s got a brand new bag!!!!!
Here it is, write me if you want one….with or without the Naga bead.
