I’m Taking My Second Chance… Will You Take Yours?

Last Friday on my way home from work I was involved in a very serious car accident that could have easily taken the lives of both my unborn child and me. The roads were icy and I lost control of my vehicle on a major highway, resulting in my going off the road into the downhill median and my car doing a complete rollover.  Out of sheer luck, my car landed right side up and I managed to get out of the car completely unharmed, save a pretty good blow to the head. My baby was OK. Even my car seemed salvageable. It was nothing short of an absolute miracle, and the second chance I’ve been given isn’t something I’ll soon forget.

I realized something very important in the moments immediately following the accident: time really is precious, and whatever it is that you want to do in life, or whoever it is that you want to become, you better go for it while you have the chance. We spend so much time talking and dreaming about what we want, but far too many of us just stop there. We never actually act on things.  What if today was your last day? Could you look back and feel satisfied with your choices, or would you find yourself with a mountain of regrets?

We all deserve happiness. But sitting around waiting for it to find us isn’t the way to go about achieving it- we are all responsible for our own. If you’re unhappy with something in your life, change it. There is nothing to be gained by continuing down the same disappointing path you are on if there is a possibility of traveling on another more satisfying one. I see it all the time with our prospective clients: they are drowning, the walls are closing in around them and they feel powerless to stop it. But the truth is if they’ve found us, they’ve found their possibility.
That’s why it always surprises me if someone hesitates to come on board. If you have the chance to get your life back, why not take it?

I can say now without any hint of doubt or hesitation that I will no longer be a backseat driver in my own life. I only get one, and I’m not waiting for or counting on anyone else to make it something I’m happy with and proud of. That’s my job.
