Hurry up and Wait

Unfortunately the title of this blog is the reality for a workout situation.  Most of our clients do not anticipate the normal flow of a workout and as a result they are stressed out constantly.

Bankers see our clients as the enemy.  Why?  Because guarantors are human.  They run away, they hide, they get belligerent.  Bankers hate their jobs when they have to collect, because every day they see little to no progress and they have to legally attack the guarantors to get recompense.  This has developed into a pervasive negative mentality in the world of bankers who deal with defaulting loans, especially SBA-backed notes as these notes have even tougher guidelines for the banker to protect their guarantee.

How does this massive negative mentality effect my clients?  The flow of the workout is choppy and haphazard.  Bankers are constantly demanding documents or results immediately and when they get what they need, the banker becomes complacent and must be forced to complete their end of the deal.  This creates a situation where my clients and I must constantly hurry up to get what the banker needs and then to wait for the banker to take care of items on which I am unable to proactively attack the situation.

Clients always ask a timeframe when signing on with Second Wind Consultants.  They want a defined date when they will have their life back and be able to emerge without the stress of crushing obligations which stifle not just their cash flow, but their enjoyment in life.  Clients do not just think about the debts of their business while they are at work, the stress comes home with them and bleeds into every aspect of what they do.  It impacts their social encounters and their marriages and the hurry up and wait progression of the process always leaves them feeling like they get left holding the short end of the stick.  Giving an exact timeframe is impossible, though we try to give an approximation.  Workouts can end in the first three months or drag on over a year.  There is simply no accurate way to know until you are in the midst of the process and even then sometimes we get surprised.

Relax, Breathe, and stick with the process.  Don’t stress out and let us handle your workout.  We will succeed.  Most workouts fall into our expectations, but if you are one of the longer workouts, hang in there.

The workout process works much like a roller coaster.  There are periods where we are flying down the rails full tilt and then other times we are clicking our way up the next hill, but in the end, we always get to the finish line.
