The Face of a Company

There are millions of businesses in the United States and each of the businesses has a face.

The face of a company is one of the many marketing tools available to a business owner.  Is it a logo?  A person?

The face of a company is an image everyone is going to see when they think of your business and what you do.  For instance, look at a band.  ”A band?” you ask.  Yes, a band.  It is a company, they have revenue, cash flow, overhead, payroll.  All sorts of issues small or big.  Let’s look at one of my favorite bands, Metallica.

Metallica is and has been a major business.  They make tons of money.  The band sells their “product” in every major country and in many cities and have been in business for many years.  James Hetfield is one of the most recognized and publicized front men of music.  He has had lifetime achievement awards on major television stations and has been in the foreground of metallica since the band’s beginnings.  The logo of metallica is the name with the M and A pointed and slanted, but when you think of the bank you think of James Hetfield.

When I think of metallica I think of Jame’s voice, the “Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey” in enter sandman and many other specific moments in songs and interviews and publications, all of them have James in front.  That is a way Metallica advertises.

How about your business?  If you sell Italian Ice is the logo, a giant view of your product, or a name, your face?  When I think of Barts Ice cream, or McDonalds it is a logo that comes to mind, such as the golden arches.

How do you market your business with the face you use?  Is it a corporate feel?  Are you using the right face?  If the business is family owned and operated and you use that for marketing and your logo is your “face,” maybe you should change your face to a picture of your family?  Maybe in an Automobile repair shop you should have a logo as a face or maybe you should cover your publications and websites with the crew working on cars.  There are many ways to use the face of your company as not just an object or picture to fill space on your website and advertising, but also as a way to convey a message.

What message are you sending?  Is it the right message?  Ask yourself these questions and those answers will tell you if your face is the right face for your company.
