Unbelievable

I am not sure if you can make out the numbers on this image, but let me break it down for you.
My newest client was in a massive debacle with a major oil company which led directly to his business closing and him living under a million dollar debt and he sued the oil company.  He won the lawsuit and gained an immediate 390,000.00 in retributions.  From this amount he and his partner took home 222,583.77.

Yes, that’s right.  The lawyers took almost a full 170,000 of his winnings in fees.  When the oil company came back at my client with massive heaps of paper and appeals the man ran out of money to keep suing the company and though he held over 1 million dollars in debt he would never see another dime from the people responsible.

You may be thinking, the lawyer got him some big money, he has every right to a piece of it.  You would be correct, but what the bill does not say is that the other two lawyers listed work in the same law office as the first.  Not to mention that these bills are in addition to a 20% contingency fee.  This is legalized robbery and the legal reps are the ones doing the robbing.  Getting a piece of the pie is one thing, but you should leave the client at least a little of the filling.

Clearly everyone who is not a lawyer is in the wrong industry as they seem to be able to make up any numbers they want and tack it on as a legal fee.  Had the lawyers taken a proper share, the client would have been able to continue the suit to conclusion and I am sure the end result would have paid a much larger fee to the law office, even though it would have been a lower percentage of winnings.

One more example of why companies like Second Wind are needed.  Someone needs to help people in these situations and another bailout just won’t cut it.
