Climbing the Ladder

human ladderWhen you have no response from an individual, what options do you have?

You have a few different choices in this situation.

The first option is to simply give up and walk away.  When you are holding a client’s financial future in your hands this is no longer and option.  If you are working on your own behalf this should never be an option either.

The second option is slightly more viable.  You can attempt to circumnavigate your problem.  In my case it was a creditor.  I have done everything other than submit a blood sample on my client’s behalf and was getting nowhere.  I had the option to try and go around the banker and deal with a co-worker instead.

The third option is the one I chose, and the one I find most effective.  In business, unlike in life, everyone has a boss.  It may be a regional manager or as simple as a shift leader, but each and every person you will deal with has a boss in some form.  Even CEOs have shareholders.

The third option is to do what I call “climbing the ladder.”  Ask to speak to their direct supervisor and if you don’t get results, keep asking for the next level up until you get some communication.  You may end up finishing your work with the person who you tried to call in the first place, but it may take six other people to get to that point.  Use the ladder when in doubt.  Having you boss dealing with your job is never a good situation and if you can put the creditor in that position, you start the negotiations with a new level of power.
