Sometimes it’s Time to Go.

LeavingBeing in one place for a length of time builds comfort.  Even if you dislike where you are, the cost and effort of moving are daunting.  This is true if you are moving where you live and even more so if you have to move your business.  Even though it is a struggle, it may be a necessary evil.

In my case it was my home.  I lived in an environment with my wife that was not healthy.  It was stifling us both as people and we needed to get out.  We had been there for a while and although we both knew we wanted to leave, it was cheap and the location was perfect.  In the end we looked at it the same way I would if I was a business owner looking to grow my company.  I asked, “Can I grow my life as a husband and a person here?”  In my case, the answer was a resounding no!

As a business owner you need to ask yourself similar questions, “Can I grow my business here?  Does this location provide me with everything I need?”  If you cannot answer both those questions with a yes, you need a change.  You may decide, like me, that you are willing to pay more, maybe even double or triple your rent to provide your business with a location that works.  Remember this is a business decision, there should be no emotional considerations.

Find a place that will allow you to grow without costing you too much to survive.  There is no point in a massive, sprawling complex you can afford only if you hit projections for the next ten years.  Find a place you can afford now, that still provides what you need and the ability to grow.  Your investment will reveal worth in no time.
