How Much Money Do You Want?
How much money do you want? This is a great question with huge implications.
What’s your dream? What is your number? How much money do you want to earn? How big a business to you need to have to achieve it? How much do you want to retire with? There are a number of ways to ask this question and just as many ways to answer. It’s a very important issue and few ever address it.
Steve Jobs, while in his garage creating the first personal computer, declared he would make billions and change the world. He accomplished both. Had he said he wanted to be a millionaire he probably would have accomplished this instead of achieving billionaire status.
The point is this: both dreams require different efforts, different organizations, different business plans, different strategies.
Now the other extreme is not knowing what your number is so growth and development tends to have a life of its own with no real connection to what you are doing, where you are going, and where you want to end up. It all just happens.
The third option is to have a dream yet not connect it to a plan. Its one thing to have a vision to be a billionaire, its another to create a plan that will take you there.
It is important to deal with this issue as it sets the tone for what your parameters are for your life goals. If you fail to do this there is no end, no middle and no success as one never knows if you have reached the goal or not, one never knows whether they are successful or not as all they want is more, more, more, without an idea as to how much more they want or how to achieve the goal.
The point is, ask the question and answer it and then set out on a path that will support your achieving this end. How else can you ever get to where you want to be?
Some say they just want to be comfortable. OK. What does that mean, how much is that and how large an organization do you have to develop to satisfy this objective and can your plan support the goal.
How much is enough? Another aspect of this question, what are you trying to achieve and what must you do to achieve this?
Why is this Important? If you do not do this, there is no self determined conclusion. There is no cause for celebration. You owe it to yourself, think about it, what do you want to accomplish and how are you going to get there, and then determine if your on the right track or whether or maybe have to change directions, make a new plan or simply evolve. Grow naturally but with goals in mind…
Think about it, its a good idea. Do it, decide what is enough, and when you achieve it, yes you can change your mind but at least you created a benchmark, or you can acknowledge your success and say Hallalujah…what’s next?
