Choose Your Credit Repair Specialist Carefully

Credit repair is a process that presumably improves your credit score. How can this be, as your score is supposed to reflect your real history, late payments, write-offs, liens, foreclosures, bankruptcies, etc.? Whatever you do it is reflected on your credit history and transforms to a score. The score is then the basis for determining the acceptance or rejection, interest and points, and other terms you may encounter when applying for credit anywhere.

How can we then change reality? Seems sketchy, and maybe that’s why there is so much abuse and confusion in this area of business service. People desperately want to increase their scores and have no idea how to do it. Some services promise miracles and after paying fees one discovers that if it is too good to be true it probably is–a lesson most of us have learned many times over.

Let me give you a little insight into the legitimate practice of credit rehabilitation. With hundreds of millions of credit reports filed weekly, it is inconceivable that mistakes are not made. I recently viewed my report and discovered a bankruptcy had been attached to my record that was completely untrue. Of course, upon challenge it was removed. However, had I not checked and challenged it, it would have caused me damage for ten years or more! That’s another area of abuse, the time a negative report is allowed to stay on your record. With the huge number of daily entries, it’s no wonder many entries remain on the report that should be removed. It is the job of the individual to monitor this and make certain his report is accurate. There can also be incorrect filing from correct accounts. In other words, a credit card company or merchant can report you late when in fact you may have not been late. This happens all the time.

A number of simple strategies in addition to correcting mistakes will enhance credit, such as paying down credit cards, removing debt, increasing revenue, all affecting the debt to income ratio, all affecting your credit score. Similar names, similar addresses, old history, inaccurate credit levels or income levels are all subject to misstatement and mistake and must all be verified as accurate, if challenged. These are just a few examples, but in the end an effective credit rehab specialist can affect your credit score in a positive manner and is worth the effort and cost. It’s a significant job for the credit rehab specialist to challenge entries that may not be correct. The credit agency must verify and report accurately. After proving the entry is inaccurate, they must remove it from your record within an allotted time.

If you are suffering from bad credit it may be worth the investment to have your credit cleaned up and for you to be counseled in how to prevent degradation and how to further improve your credit score by specific adjustments. It is worth it as long as you get a qualified expert working on your behalf. That, too, is a challenge as there are many who fail to meet these criteria and are in it just for the fees. This is a huge issue and a major problem. As with everything, do your homework. Ask for references, make certain your chosen specialist is working for you, and then stay in tune to the effort and results. You should begin to see changes within thirty days, however, the entire process can take many months. Do not pay large fees in advance. Monthly progress fees are safer, smarter, and more affordable. I have worked with many and frankly have found few who are effective. Call me for a recommendation!
